Have you ever been first?

I woke up Saturday around 6:00 am thinking about a computer supplies cross reference project that has to be done this weekend. So what is the first thing I did.... Check my email. (Big Mistake). After reading about 50 junk emails, I came across on of my Google alerts about a new product. So curiosity got to me, so I had to check it out.

Now out of respect for your security, I won't mention the URL, but soon as I visited the site, my computer started acting funny. Virus warnings go off, Windows Defender going off, pop-up advertisements, pop-unders, an advertisments for Domino's Pizza and access to my computer becomes limited.

I feel victim to this link and website. A Virus is now on my computer system. "Thanks Google" for directing me to this site.

Tensions were running high through the household, especially for a Saturday. Later on the evening I decided to take on the virus on my computer. WRONG.....After tinckering with McAfee and other virus protection programs, NOTHING but frustration. My computer was still acting like crap.

So I decided to call McAfee to see if they could help. I purchased the Platnium package which a techincal support rep remove the virues. Could this be the solution?

After talking to the tech rep at McAfee for three hours, he told me at 9:30 pm "Looks like you are the first one with this virus and we just got notified of this virus five minutes ago. We will have to call you back in 24 to 48 hours for a solution."

By the way, the name of the virus is "clicker.winfree2" virus. The clicker.winfree2 virus is nasty. It will shut down your network connections, disable all of your virus dection software and overload your computer. Basically the clicker.winfree2 virus is nasty.

But at least I know Domino's is part of cheap virus advertising.

Soon as I get this fixed I will post a link to the clicker.winfree2 virus solution.

Update:
Fixed - five hours later on the phone with McAfee it is fixed - What a relief. Now is the time to back-up. So when was the last time you backed up your system?

I found this cool "One Touch 500GB back-up system" by Calvary. It is a 500GB USB back-up device, and best yet, less than $90.00. Well worth the money.

Extending the Life of a Projector Lamp

These are simple and common sense tips to extend the life of a projector lamp.

During the use of a Projector
Keep the projector air filters clean. Clogged filters and/ or vents will not vent heat properly, and can cause the projector lamp to overheat and fail.

Do not place anything on top of the projector or in front of the intake or exhaust vents. This will cause the lamp to overheat and fail.

Some projectors now offer "low lamp" or "economy mode" options. Use them whenever possible. These options have been developed to extend lamp life.

Turning off a projector
Do not unplug the projector until the lamp has properly cooled. After the projector has been shut off, the fan will remain on for about 5 minutes. This aids in cooling the lamp evenly and completely and decreases the chance of early lamp failure.

Hot projector lamps are very fragile. Only move the projector after the lamp has completely cooled. The shock and vibration while in travel to a hot projector lamp may cause the lamp filament or the bulb itself to break.

Do not turn the projector on and off frequently during presentations. Each time the projector is switched on, the inrush of power causes stress on the lamp filament. Try to minimize on/ off cycles.

Replacing a Projector Lamp
Handle the lamp with gloves. Oils and deposits from hands and fingers can cause hot spots, which may result in early projector lamp failure.

When you replace the lamp housing, make sure the new housing is seated completely. Apply pressure at the base of the housing until it is completely secure.

Do Strategic Relationships Payoff?

In a recent press release from the The Recycler, Mitsubishi has acquire Future Graphics Imaging Corporation.

Hmmm...

Color Printer Supplies the same as Monochrome?

I remember the days when selling the Canon SX toner cartridge and Hewlett Packard 9225A toners was the hottest printer supply to sell.

One of the basic reasons that so many of these toner cartridges were sold, was what the Canon SX Engine was a workhorse of a printer. The second reason, it was one of the first monochrome laser printers priced below $1,000 and perfect for the typical business office. It was the perfect laser printer for business and desktop publishing printing and had better resolution than inkjet printing.

Now move forward to 2008, Color Laser Printers. Color laser printers are some of the hottest printers in production now, and for the manufacture than can get the cost of the supplies down to the cost of monochrome supplies they most likely will be the winner in the Color Laser Printer market. After reading an article from 2007, Jim Rise, the vice president of the Solid Ink Business Unit, thoughtfully said, “Could we price color prints at the same price as black & white prints?”

It is a simple goal.

Will Xerox hit the market first?

What other printer manufacture have this simple goal?
