  1. We purchased 15 of these last summer for our school. Four are still in cartons. Half of the units in service have had to be replaced due to paper jams and overheating of the fuser, sometimes with visible smoke. Ricoh has sent out a replacement units overnight, but I've had to return two of the replacement printers (which are not new, but reconditioned machines) for the same problems.

  2. Two things come to mind. First It sounds like this machine might be a piece of junk and this coming from a true end-consumer. Second, the printers could be over-utilized. The Ricoh SP3300 has a monthly duty cycle of 50,000 pages per month. Honestly, I think that that number could be a stretch, but If you are printing that many pages per month you would have to expect the fuser and the feeder tires to be worn out.

If you are printing 500 pages then call the machine a piece of junk and ask for your money back. But if you are printing about 50,000 pages per month that should be about .02 per print including supplies and the cost of the machine, that's not to bad, just a big hassle.

Don't forget the fire extinguisher next to each machine.
