Peter's Point

Just visited Peter's blog about printers and he shows an interesting piece of exploding toner as art from Flickr photograph from Makenosound. This is cool, neat and creative at the moment. "I like it!"

But in comparison, I am still amazed at Steve Graber's black & white artwork. When you look at Steve's art even one foot away you would think it is a Black & White photograph.

The amazing part is once you get a real close look at his art, it is all done in charcoal and water colors.

Yes, charcoal and water colors! Tiny lines and dots masked with a little smudge here and there to come out with an amazing photograph.

In comparison to the printer industry, I have only seen one printer with this capability. Care to guess?

A hint is they are no longer making printers but are making electronic components for printers, switches, sensors, RF devices, optical devices and other electronics.

Typo or TASKafla?

Just email us, and we will send a spec sheet to you of these new Kyocera TASKalfa MFP's. Or you can visit this post about these new machines from Kyocera.

Well a heated debate came out of the recent press release from Kyocera Mita in our office. We posted that Kyocera Mita was going to come out with 15 new printers with the new brand name "TASKalfa". But as we looked closer at the press release the debate came up, is this a typo?

Manufacturers are no angels and are subject to the same scrutiny as we are - and we see alot of their mistakes. If you carefully read their press release - they have TASK "alfa" and TASK "afla".

This easily could be a typo from fast fingers?

We have sent an email to the Daniel and Paul to see if the new machines are TASK "alfa" or TASK "afla", and maybe they will contact us and post the the true brand name Kyocera Mita is trying to brand on our blog - my guess is TASKalfa, what is your guess?

Paul sent me an email Sep 18th - It is "TASKalfa". Honestly I have done a few typos myself - but at least I won the beer bet....

Google Chrome - Just Another Browser?

Google should be launching it's new web browser later on this afternoon in Beta format. While this really doesn't have anything to do with Office Supplies, it could effect your office. Google did jump the gun in the release of information about the new browser late last night on Google's blog, but we are still unable to download today. But for the eager, you can see a few screen shots of Google's Chrome browser on PC World website.

Google keeps it simple and easy to use as always.

With all of the money behind Google, they should be able to catch up on the installs of browsers pretty quickly.

We have included some benchmarks percentages of browser usage from multiple sites, we shall check back on these next month and see if Google has captured market share in the browser world.

What are Resellers Searching for?

We would expect Hewlett Packard to have the majority of the market share. Surprisingly Ricoh quietly sneaks into fourth place into number of searches with a total of 11% when you combine all of the different divisions of Ricoh, which consist of Gestetner, Lanier and IBM. Interesting that Ricoh is now ahead of Brother in the number of searches?

Maybe Ricoh makes things difficult for the reseller to figure out which supplies go into their machines and cross compatibility.

Hewlett Packard 30%
Lexmark 13%
Canon 10%
Brother 9%
Xerox/Tektronix 7%
Panasonic 4%
Ricoh 4%
Epson 4%
Konica/Minolta/QMS 3%
Kyocera Mita 3%
Gestetner 3%
Dell 3%
Okidata 2%
IBM 2%
Toshiba 2%
Lanier 1%
